Tarifa, Spain

Wingfoil in Tarifa

Europe's wind capital. Two wind systems, world-class conditions, and the perfect base for progression.

Why Tarifa

Tarifa sits at the southernmost tip of continental Europe, where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean. Two distinct wind systems - the easterly Levante and the westerly Poniente - make this one of the most consistently windy places on the continent. For wingfoilers, that means almost guaranteed sessions.

The main spots are Punta Paloma and Valdevaqueros, both offering flat-water areas and open ocean depending on conditions. Whether you are working on your first transitions or pushing into freestyle, Tarifa delivers the wind to progress.

Wind Systems

  • Levante - easterly, strong and consistent, typically 20-35 knots
  • Poniente - westerly, lighter and more accessible, typically 15-25 knots
  • Between the two, wind coverage is among the highest in Europe

Getting There

Fly into Malaga (1.5h drive), Jerez (1h), or Gibraltar (30 min). The drive south along the coast is part of the experience.

Where to Stay

Options range from beachfront campsites at Punta Paloma to apartments in Tarifa's old town or coastal villas between the spots. Michi can recommend places based on your preferences and budget.
